After two weeks of improvements, reliability remains a top priority

We've learned a lot these past two weeks. Most of all, we're floored by how many of you rely on Flow to get stuff done every day 💜 

The latest release brings significant reliability improvements, with more to come.

Flow's Smart Dictionary (Beta) is just the beginning 👀

Flow now learns words from your edits to make each transcription more accurate 🎯 It's the the first of many improvements to make Flow work harder and smarter for you.

International users, expect continued reliability improvements by end of week 🤞

If you've been using Flow in areas with slower Internet connections or outside the United States, you should start noticing smoother performance. We're actively working on further improvements and you should start to notice more stability by later this week. Appreciate your patience as the engineering team works around-the-clock to resolve issues!

P.S. We’ve heard your feedback that the dictionary could be more reliable. To help us work on it, please report examples of transcripts where the dictionary isn’t working well.

Today's update brings some serious performance improvements to your dictation experience this year:

• Lightning-fast app launches: Flow now loads in a fraction of the time, so you can start dictating the moment inspiration strikes 🚀

• Smoother dictation: We've turbocharged app responsiveness and made transcription more reliable, especially for longer sessions

• Lighter, faster app: Streamlined, more efficient app that uses less space on your computer 🙌

• Smart mic suggestions: Intelligent notifications help you get the clearest dictation possible, so you can focus on what matters - your work

Excited to hear what you think! As always, let us know if you encounter any issues by reporting a transcript in your History tab or at the “?” in the bottom right of your Hub.

The headline user-facing feature this release is multi-language formatting! Now if you speak a language other than English, Flow will be much better at formatting your dictations and using punctuation appropriate to your language. Give it a try and please let us know what you think! More multi-language improvements are coming soon.

After our public launch, the Flow team has also had time to focus on lots of core system efficiency work to lighten Flow’s footprint on your computer. Thank you to all of those users who worked with us to identify the edge cases that were causing Flow to drain battery, and please continue to surface any issues as they arise using the help button in the bottom right corner of the Hub.

• Updated onboarding Todo items - try whispering!

• Improved user notifications and tooltips

• Flow no longer prevents computer sleep

• A redesigned Settings page for clarity

• Improved reliability in recognizing shortcuts

This release is a big one, containing a major update to the way you can use Flow. If shortcuts aren’t your thing or you don’t like opening the Hub, you can do common actions by clicking on the Flow bar at the bottom of your screen! Left click to start Flow in hands-free mode, or right click to access common settings like changing the language or microphone. You can turn the Flow bar off at any time in the Hub settings. Other New Features

• We’re launching our paid plan! Upgrade to Flow Pro to unlock more personalization and remove limits on how much you can use Flow. We will be rolling this out to users over the course of this week.

• Microphone selection is now much more clear

• Activate hands-free mode with a separate shortcut (Fn+space by default), as well as the old way of double tapping the push-to-talk shortcut.

• Sign in with Apple is now available.

• There’s a new help button in the bottom right corner of the hub, where you can share feedback with us, access your shortcuts, see the latest app updates, and join our Slack community.

• We now default to using the built in microphone (if there is one) when headphones are connected, for much better latency and accuracy.

• As always, we have continued updates to reliability and performance.

The Flow team has continued to be heads down on improving the reliability of our keyboard shortcuts and some of our headline features like command mode, as well as our server reliability. And if something does go wrong with Flow, we've set up tools to be able to help get you back up and running more quickly.

Other Updates

• You'll see a lot fewer inappropriate empty Flowscripts in your History page.

• The list of apps and URLs that trigger email formatting has been expanded. Please let us know if you have more requests for this list!

• We've resolved performance issues related to having a lot of content on your clipboard.

Reliability has been a big focus for the Flow team over the past couple of weeks, and will continue to be so. The headline feature this week is that hotkey selection has been simplified, and we give access to hotkey selection during onboarding now to better support users with external keyboards.

Other new features

• We have higher transcription accuracy with long dictations

• Our back end has been upgraded to support our growth in users, which will make us even faster

• The Flow status bubble is more reactive and more reliable

• We have a faster, more secure deployment pipeline when downloading the app

A lot of users have been asking us to be able to edit text that they write with Flow intelligently. Today, we’re launching command mode.

We're also excited to launch two more highly requested features:

1. Smarter text insertion (beta) → Flow can now more intelligently understand where you're pasting text. For example, if you're inserting into the middle of a sentence, Flow will lowercase your transcript and add intelligent spacing

2. Better AirPods support → We now automatically pause music & fade it in/out when using Flow.

How to use

To use command mode, just say "Flow" followed by whatever you'd like Flow to do!

Smarter text insertion

Flow will do this automatically, you don't have to do anything.
